Update

It's been a while since I posted here. So if anyone is still subscribed to this site, I just wanted to let you know that I'm doing some maintenance to it. I use the prayers on this site, which came from Stormie Omartian's The Power of a Praying... series of books, as a reminder to pray for my family. Usually, I use the current date and pray over the topic in that chapter of the books. I'm going to be updating the links so that I have a clickable table of sorts at the top of the blog. This will make it easier on myself to get to the prayers for each day. So if anyone's still with me, I hope this will bless your prayer efforts as well.

Today is the 28th

And I need to pray for my family.

I praise You, Father, for my family. Bind the enemy as he tries to get into my children's lives. Show me what needs to be removed from their precious world that may be a foothold for him. Rescue them from evil and draw them to Your kingdom. (2 Timothy 4:18)

My husband is such a blessing to me and I thank you so much for him! Help him to see his value to You, to turn to You for all his needs. Free him from self-consciousness and bless his efforts. Remind him daily who he is in You.

I'm sure I should have prayed "change me" first. You heard me cry out those words recently and I continue to bring you the same verse. Give me strength, the all-I-need, to make the necessary changes in my attitude. Teach me to love, to truly love. Soften my heart. Make me faithful, giving, and obedient.

Love is patient, love is kind.
It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.
It is not rude, it is not self-seeking,
it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.
Love does not delight in evil
but rejoices with the truth.
It always protects, always trusts,
always hopes, always perseveres.
Love never fails.
- I Corinthians 13:4-8a

Week Two: Jesus the Savior

The Name this week:
Jesus - Yeshua - means "Yahweh is salvation"
Jesus Christ is God bending toward us, God becoming one of us, God reaching out in mercy, God humbling himself, God nailed to a cross, God rising up from the grave.
Jesus: Name above all names

Key Scriptures this week:

Praise be to the Lord, to God our Savior,
who daily bears our burdens.
- Psalm 68:19
Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife,
because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.
She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus,
because he will safe his people from their sins.
- Matthew 1:20-21

Day One: God Reveals His Name

Scripture Reading: Matthew 1:18-25

Understanding the Name:

The name Jesus was common in first-century Palestine, but after Jesus Christ, it nearly disappeared as a given name. Jesus or Iesous in Greek, is equivalent to the Hebrew Yeshu, which is a contraction of the Hebrew name Yehoshua, which translates into English "Joshua." Jesus and Joshua both mean, "Yahweh is help" or "Yahewh is salvation."

Soter is the Greek word translated, "Savior." Hebrew equivalent is Moshia. The Greek "Jesus is Savior" would be Iesous Soter (yay-SOUS so-TAIR). See Acts 4:12.

Questions for reflection:
  1. What comes to mind when you hear the name "Jesus"?
  2. Though Jesus was a common name in first-century Palestine, God sent an angel to announce the name to Joseph. Comment on the significance of this.
  3. Why do you thing Jesus' name is linked to the name of Yahweh, the covenant name of God in the Hebrew scriptures?
  4. Describe what salvation means to you.
